DUI: Marvin Hernandez swerves between lanes in pickup truck on I-24

35-year-old Marvin Varela Hernandez, a Varela Home Improvements employee, was swerving in a white pickup truck hauling a trailer, traveling westbound down I-24 on August 3rd. After observing this, officers followed Hernandez for several miles and initiated a traffic stop near mile marker 11. When the police approached and spoke with Hernandez, they smelled a strong alcoholic odor coming from the vehicle. Then, officers asked him for his driver’s credentials, and he handed them his passport and Illinois driver’s license. Officers noticed when Hernandez stepped out of his vehicle, the alcoholic scent became stronger. Hernandez told officers that he did not have anything to drink before consenting to sobriety tests and performing poorly. After being detained, Hernandez agreed to provide a blood sample for testing. Hernandez was transported to Tennova for a blood draw and was taken into custody for driving under the influence.

James Scarpino assaults & yells at girlfriend for using his plastic totes

53-year-old James Alexander Scarpino had a domestic altercation with his girlfriend, Deanna O’Dell, at their Loren Circle residence on August 2nd. Responding officers spoke with O’Dell, who alleged that Scarpino had gotten angry after noticing she was using his plastic totes. She alleged that he tried forcibly taking them back. O’Dell stated that Scarpino bumped her with his chest several times while yelling profanities at her to incite fear and panic. She added that when he snatched the totes, it left several cuts on her right wrist. A warrant was then issued for Scarpino’s arrest. Scarpino was later taken into custody for domestic assault on August 3rd.

Christopher Dodson forcefully enters neighbor’s home & holds him down

23-year-old Christopher James Dodson forcefully entered his neighbor’s Cumberland Heights Road residence on the afternoon of August 2nd. When officers arrived, they spoke with Jefferey Foret. He stated that Dodson came to his home and knocked the screen off his front door. Foret said that when Dodson came inside, Dodson held him down on the floor and would not let him up. Foret added that during the struggle, his laptop had broken. When the police spoke with Dodson, he admitted to crossing the fence, entering Foret’s house, and holding him down on the ground. Jamal Smith pistol-whips man, accidentally shoots him in shoulder during altercation

34-year-old Jamal Smith was caught assaulting Mr. Rice at his home on Cameo Court on August 1st. During Rice’s account of the incident, he told officers he was at the mentioned location with Mrs. Kyasha Blackwell. Rice stated that while he was there, Blackwell answered the door and let in a dark-skinned male that he didn’t know, who was later identified as Smith. Rice reported that Smith pointed a pistol at him and demanded that he leave his house. At that moment, Smith chambered a round into the gun and pistol-whipped Rice. While Rice was getting pistol-whipped, Smith’s gun discharged and hit Rice in his shoulder. Rice reported that Smith then became apologetic, that he started telling him about his past, and that he would let him go. Smith proceeded to tell Rice he was allowed to go home, but Smith demanded that he had to follow him and that he needed possession of Rice’s phone. Once Rice made it home, he received his phone back from Smith before he left the residence. Rice reported that after some time, the pain got worse, so he made his way to a hospital. During the investigation, Smith was developed as a suspect and identified by Rice in a lineup. Initially, Rice withheld the full details from the officers due to fears for his safety. Eventually, however, he decided to share the entire story. Smith was later taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, and possession of a firearm during a felony on August 2nd.

Christopher Collins violates ex-wife’s order of protection by yelling slurs at her new man

41-year-old Christopher James Collins violated an order of protection that his ex-wife, Anna Collins, placed against him at the Trenton Road Publix on the night of August 1st. Responding officers spoke with Anna and Michael Chitwood, who stated they were pulling into a parking spot at the location. As they did this, Christopher approached the driver’s side window, where Chitwood was seated, and started yelling obnoxious slurs at them. Chitwood explained that he put his truck in reverse to escape Christopher out of fear. Officers reviewed surveillance at the establishment, showing Christopher approaching Chitwood and Anna aggressively. Officers then observed Chitwood drive off without the incident escalating. Finally, the footage showed Chitwood returning to the parking lot and calling 911. When officers arrived on the scene, Christopher was no longer there. However, officers confirmed that an order of protection was in place against Christopher and obtained warrants for his arrest. Alexa Smith hits husband with car seat, threatens him with axe during altercation

25-year-old Alexa Smith was involved in a domestic altercation with her husband, Jonathan Smith, on August 4th. When officers arrived, they spoke with Jonathan. He stated that his wife, Alexa, had come to his residence. Jonathan stated Alexa had put him in fear for his life by picking up an axe and swinging it over her shoulder as if she was going to hit him. Jonathan informed the officers that he took the axe out of her hands when it was over her shoulder. After this, Jonathan alleged that Alexa entered his vehicle to locate a car seat. When Alexa attempted to take the car seat out, she hit Jonathan with it. Jonathan claims he does not know if it was intentional or accidental but still told the officers. Officers then made contact with Alexa at her residence. She admitted to picking up the axe but claimed she put it down immediately when she realized what it was. Alexa also admitted to officers that she hit Jonathan with the car seat accidentally because he was standing right behind her when she was taking it out. Officers deemed Alexa to be the primary aggressor, and she was taken into custody for domestic assault.

E-5 Soldier Ja’von Bailey leaves 3-year-old son unattended with multiple firearms

23-year-old Soldier Ja’Von Wayne Bailey left his 3-year-old son unattended at his Tracy Lane apartment on August 3rd. Officers received a call about a child wandering the apartment complex. When officers arrived, they located the 3-year-old who was only wearing a diaper. The toddler could not speak completely but was able to lead the police to his and Ja’Von’s unit. In the unit, officers found three firearms on the bed, which were easily accessible to his 3-year-old son. After about an hour, Ja’Von returned and told officers that he had left his son with a roommate. It was later determined that Ja’Von left the sleeping child to go to the store. Bailey was then taken into custody for child abuse and neglect on August 4th.

Stacy Torian-Batts jailed after drunkenly pulling on car doors in Walmart parking lot with 5-year-old child

36-year-old Stacy Torian-Batts was seen publicly intoxicated at Walmart on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard on August 3rd. The store employees reported seeing a woman and a child walking through the parking lot. They added that the woman was pulling on random car door handles. When officers arrived on the scene, they made contact with Batts and her five-year-old daughter. Officers observed Batts pulling on the handles of a vehicle, and when asked what she was doing, Batts stated that she was looking for her keys.

While speaking with her, Batts had a strong smell of alcohol on her, as well as slurred speech and difficulty maintaining balance. After the Department of Child Services had arrived on the scene, they spoke with the child. The child stated that her mother, Batts, had shoplifted four single shots of moonshine from Ebenezer’s Liquors & Wine and consumed them on the walk to Walmart. DCS took the child, and Batts was then taken into custody for child abuse, simple possession, and public intoxication on August 4th.

DUI: Jonathan Streeter drives down Pageant Lane with illegal tint on his white Lexus

25-year-old Jonathan Streeter was stopped on Pageant Lane for illegal tint on his white Lexus Sedan at 3:19 a.m. on August 3rd. When officers made contact and spoke with Streeter, they observed the smell of alcohol coming from his person. Officers questioned Streeter about his alcohol intake, and he admitted that he had a few shots at the Pinnacle Bowling Alley. After being prompted with field sobriety tests, Streeter consented and performed poorly. Streeter was then deemed intoxicated and taken into custody. During a search of Streeter’s ID, it was found that he was driving outside the zone with which his restricted license was set. Streeter was transported to booking and charged with driving under the influence and driving on a suspended license.

DUI: Jack Finnels III scores .148% BAC after speeding down Fort Campbell Boulevard

41-year-old Jack Finnels III, an employee of Tennova, was caught driving under the influence after speeding on Fort Campbell Boulevard on August 4th. Officers were traveling south on Fort Campbell Boulevard and observed an orange BMW going faster than the posted 45mph speed limit. Officers then confirmed the vehicle’s speed to be 68 mph and initiated a traffic stop on Fort Campbell Boulevard and Quin Lane. Officers made contact with Finnels III, and while speaking with him, officers noticed the smell of alcohol coming from his breath. When asked, Finnels III admitted to drinking two drinks containing alcohol. Officers then requested Finnels III perform sobriety tests, which he accepted. However, Finnels III performed poorly on all sobriety tests given. Finnels III then performed a breathalyzer test, and his results showed .148% BAC. Finnels III was then deemed intoxicated and taken into custody for driving under the influence.

DUI: Luis Rosas caught with multiple THC vapes after driving with non-functional tag lights

34-year-old Luis Rosas was pulled over in his back Dodge Avenger for having non-functional tag lights at the intersection of Crossland Avenue and Greenwood Avenue on August 2nd. Officers made contact and noticed a strong odor of alcohol as they approached Rosas. Officers then prompted Rosas with sobriety tests. Rosas consented to the sobriety tests but performed poorly on them, so he was taken into custody. During an arrest search, officers found an open container of alcohol and two closed containers in the back seat of his car. Officers also found three THC vapes, a grinder containing a green leafy substance, and rolling paper. Rosas was then transported to booking and charged with simple possession, unlawful drug paraphernalia, and driving under the influence.

Fredrick Reeves indicted by Grand Jury for multiple counts of burglary

A Montgomery County Grand Jury has indicted 22-year-old Fredrick Reeves for four counts of burglary that occurred on or about June 14th, 2023. The indictment alleges that Reeves did knowingly and or recklessly enter Chanel Woods, Carolyn Contreras, Cassidy Tawny, and Steven Tai’s vehicles without their consent with the intent to commit theft. Reeves was taken into custody on August 1st. A judicial commissioner set his bond at 15,000.

Enrique Rosales throws chair at woman, punches multiple holes in wall during argument

28-year-old Enrique Rosales was involved in a domestic altercation with Tiana Gray-Ramsey while at her Ramblewood apartment residence on July 29th. When the officers arrived, they were informed that Rosales and Ramsey had argued inside the apartment. The situation escalated to the point where Rosales threw a chair at Ramsey. Rosales then punched and elbowed the apartment wall multiple times. The damage to the wall was valued at $500. Officers noticed multiple holes in the wall, consistent with the chair thrown at Ramsey. Upon inspecting Rosales’ hands, officers noted swollen knuckles with abrasions and cuts. Officers also noticed white dust on his right elbow, which was consistent with causing damage to the wall. After reviewing the information, Rosales was found to be in violation of an active COR, with Ramsey being the protected party. Rosales was identified as the primary aggressor and was then taken into custody, facing charges of aggravated assault, contempt, and vandalism.
