Brandie Herrington jailed after officers discover malnourished dog on her property

44-year-old Brandie Herrington was caught neglecting her German Shepherd at Tennova Main Hospital on May 23rd. Officers arrived at Herrington’s Lafayette Point Circle residence and spoke to Herrington regarding a separate incident before she was transported to Tennova Main Hospital. While doing so, an officer noticed a German Shepherd inside a kennel that appeared very malnourished. The officer could clearly observe the dog’s rib cage and spine. Law enforcement made contact with Herrington’s son, Hayes. Hayes informed officers that the dog belonged to his sister, who was in Nashville. Hayes stated her dog had been staying with him and his mother for the last couple of months. Hayes also informed officers that Herrington was the animal’s primary caretaker. Law enforcement felt the need to contact animal control because of how severe the state of the dog seemed. Animal control stated that they came to Herrington’s residence on April 6th, 2023, regarding the health and well-being of the dog. Animal control told officers that when they weighed the dog on their previous visit, it weighed 69 pounds. When they took the dog to the vet on May 23rd and weighed it again, the dog weighed 41.2 pounds. The dog lost 27.8 pounds between April 6th, 2023, and May 23rd, 2024. Brandie Herrington was taken into custody and charged with animal cruelty on May 31st.
