Carlis Byard Jr. impales man with gardening tool during fight at Mini-Mart

51-year-old Carlis Byard Jr. was seen assaulting Matyis Anthony with a rotary cultivating tool at a Mini-Mart on Zinc Plant Road on July 6th. Byard Jr. and Anthony were arguing inside the Mini-Mart when they agreed to go outside. Both proceeded to go back inside the Mini Mart, where the argument ceased. After this, Byard Jr. left the Mini Mart again and retrieved a rotary Cultivator tool with spikes at the end. Byard Jr. positioned himself right outside the door, taking a stance. Once Anthony exited the building, Byard Jr. struck Anthony with the gardening tool, impaling him on his left arm. The two then began fighting, and Anthony struck Byard Jr. back in self-defense. Officers observed the injuries to Anthony that were consistent with him being stabbed before receiving footage from the Mini Mart. Byard was then deemed the primary aggressor, and he was taken into custody for aggravated assault.
