Brooke Walker steals $1200 from Gateway Credit Union by cashing checks multiple times

44-year-old Brooke Walker was caught embezzling money at the Gateway Credit Union on February 2nd. Walker remotely cashed a check for $500 on November 10th, 2023, at Gateway Credit Union and received the money. On November 12th, 2023, Walker cashed the same check again and received an additional $500.

After that check, Walker cashed a check for $700 on November 17, 2023, and received the money. Then, on December 13th, 2023, Walker remotely cashed the same $700 check and received the money again. On December 19th, Walker made a third remote attempt at cashing the same $700 check but was prevented. Gateway Credit Union tried to correct the situation by contacting Walker, but she did not come forward. Brooke Walker was taken into custody and charged with embezzlement on February 2nd.

DUI: Soldier Jonathan Vroman speeds down Fort Campbell Boulevard on suspended license

28-year-old Soldier Jonathan Vroman was seen swerving and speeding on Fort Campbell Boulevard early February 2nd. An officer observed this and identified Vroman as the owner/driver of the car. The officer searched the National Crime Information Center and determined that Vroman was driving on a suspended driver’s license. This led to the officer conducting a traffic stop. Once the officer contacted Vroman, he commented on the odor of an intoxicating beverage coming from Vroman’s person. Vroman then admitted that he had drank before driving. Vroman was then prompted to perform some field sobriety tests and demonstrated clear signs of intoxication. Jonathan Vroman was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence and driving on a revoked or suspended license.

31-year-old Jessica Johns was seen in a dark-colored Jeep swerving on Dover Road early February 2nd. An officer shortly conducted a traffic stop and observed that Johns was visibly intoxicated. Johns admitted to drinking and approved taking some field sobriety tests. Johns then performed poorly on sobriety tests. 37-year-old Jennifer Bryant was caught giving misinformation regarding a sexual battery case at Firehouse Subs on Wilma Rudolph Boulevard on February 1st. During the sexual battery case, Bryant provided law enforcement with a statement that resulted in the completion of the case. Later on, Bryant informed law enforcement that there was no sexual assault. Bryant also advised that the information she gave regarding the case was false. 19-year-old Jayden Grammes was jailed on February 14th after officers responded to Ashton Drive for a possible stabbing. Jordan Grammes stated that his older brother stabbed him and cut his mother, Jeanine Grammes, during an altercation in the kitchen. According to Jordan, Jayden charged him with a knife, which is when their mother stepped in to separate them, but the two men fell to the floor. Jayden continued to try to stab his brother and succeeded by severely cutting his pinky finger. Jeanine also sustained a cut on her left arm and a slash on the back of her forearm. 41-year-old Jaclyn Simpson was caught attempting to cash in worthless checks to The Villas at Heritage Pointe townhouses on August 21st. Simpson deposited a check worth $588.90 online and then, the next day, deposited the original check for $588.90. A letter was sent to Simpson asking for $1197.80, including a $20 return fee. Jaclyn Simpson was taken into custody and charged with fraud.

DUI: Soldier Matthew Thornton flees from accident

23-year-old Fort Campbell Soldier Matthew Thornton was involved in a car crash at the intersection of Lafayette Road and North Liberty Church Road on April 5th, 2023. He reportedly left the scene of the accident and walked in the direction of Northwest High School. The vehicle was stuck on a utility pole guide wire with multiple airbags deployed. Officers observed military gear bearing the name “Thorton” and later responded to the Flats at Lancaster, where Matthew lived. They discovered blood in the residence, which matched the blood located inside the crashed vehicle.

Later, Mrs. Thornton, Matthew’s wife, came to the scene of the accident. She stated that she and Matthew rode together in her car to a friend’s house, where she dropped him off. Mrs. Thornton advised that Matthew had his phone with him at the friend’s house but originally stated his phone was showing the location of his vehicle. She also added that she was unsure about how he got back home.

Officers contacted Madison Swanson, the friend whom Matthew had been dropped off. Swanson stated that Matthew arrived disoriented and injured and that they had all been drinking earlier in the evening. At Swanson’s apartment, officers finally came into contact with Matthew, who had an injury to his thumb that was bleeding. A blood sample was taken, which came back .118% BAC. Matthew Thornton was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence.

46-year-old Jason Lee White failed to yield to a patrol car’s right of way on Somerset Road in the early hours of February 11th. Then, after completing his turn, he entered the furthest lane. Officers observed this, so they conducted a traffic stop. They noticed a strong odor of alcohol as they approached the driver’s side and asked him to exit the vehicle to take sobriety tests. White consented and performed poorly. While White was being transported to Tennova, he repeatedly expressed that he would not consent to a blood draw with or without a warrant, telling them, “Ain’t nobody going to stick me with no needle.” White was taken into custody for tampering with evidence, failure to yield, improper turn, and driving under the influence.

Kayla Turner severely neglects 5-year-old and newborn baby

28-year-old Kayla Janae Cartell Turner was taken into custody for three counts of child abuse/neglect. In the early hours of February 11th, a concerned citizen alerted the authorities, informing them that an unsupervised infant was walking in the middle of the parking lot at Ramblewood Apartments. Detectives arrived and observed the infant was barefoot and covered in dirt with a soiled diaper. After speaking with several residents, they located the mother, Turner, in her unit and noticed a heap of clothing in the living room, hindering any sight of the floor. There was also rotten food on the floor and counters, which were both covered in mold. Then, officers located a 5-year-old child and a newborn, who was face down on the bed with a diaper so soiled that it had lost its color. As they investigated further, they found trash piled up inside the children’s bedroom and realized no food. Turner told them that she had last changed their diapers around 7 p.m. on February 10th, six hours before officers showed up, and then explained that she only gets one diaper size for her 5-year-old, 1-year-old, and newborn to share, insisting that they wore the same size. She also admitted to drinking before she went to bed on the day prior. Turner was detained, and then detectives notified DCS.

Khaleaya Cherry chases husband with knife and threatens to slit mother’s throat

29-year-old Fort Campbell Soldier Khaleaya Cherry was involved in an altercation with her husband, Jeremy McKenzie, and mother, Denise Bray, at Fort Sumter Drive on February 11th. After returning home from a date night, the couple got into an argument in their bathroom, leading to McKenzie calling his mother-in-law to de-escalate the situation. McKenzie turned away to leave the bathroom to get some space, but Cherry punched him in the back of his head. He continued on his way out of the room and went downstairs with Cherry still pursuing him. While downstairs, Cherry went to the kitchen, grabbed a large knife, and began to chase McKenzie back up the stairs. McKenzie was able to make it back to their bedroom and lock himself in. Cherry then went to her mother’s room and began an argument with her as well. During the argument, Cherry started punching her in the face while still holding the knife. Cherry then put the knife to her mother’s throat and said that she would kill her. Officers made contact with Cherry, who stated that nothing got physical with her husband but wouldn’t go into detail about what happened with her mother. Khaleaya Cherry was taken into custody and charged with two counts of aggravated domestic assault.

21-year-old Carlos Pineda-Echeverria was seen speeding in a black Lexus IS 250 on I-24 West early February 13th. An officer observed on his speed radar that Carlos was traveling over 83 mph in a 70mph zone. A traffic stop was conducted, which discovered that Carlos’s Lexus bore an expired tag. Once Carlos came into contact with the officer, he handed the officer his license and expired insurance. After running Carlos’s license, it returned under a revoked status for driving under the influence.
