DUI: Tia Newman drinks beer while driving with 7-month-old child in backseat

30-year-old Tia Alexis Hope Newman was observed violating the hands-free law near 101st Airborne Division Parkway and Trenton Road around 6:10 p.m. on June 1st. After noticing this, officers initiated a traffic stop and approached the driver’s side. Officers noticed Newman reeked of alcohol and had open beer cans on the passenger side floorboard. Newman told officers that she had been drinking since 11 a.m. Newman then consented to sobriety tests, which she performed poorly on. Newman was read implied consent and agreed to provide officers with a blood sample. During the traffic stop, Newman had her 7-month-old child improperly restrained in the backseat. The child’s car seat was only held down by the seatbelt of the backseat. Newman’s child was left with her sister. Officers then discovered that her driver’s license had been revoked since April 16th, 2023. Newman was then taken into custody for driving on a revoked license, driving under the influence, improper child restraint devices, and an open-container violation.
